lol when I used to sell Home theater I would demo speakers all day because I was going to try and save up and buy a badass system. The best buy I was at had a magnolia room so there was some super high end stuff that I got to play with and regular middle of the line stuff on the regular HT floor. Out of all the martin logans, klipsch, polk, HTIBS, sony, Bose, yamaha, mirage, etc that I listened to. Polk by far had the warmest and truest sound for a system that would cost as much as one martinlogan :/

logans are too directional with too small of a 'sweet spot', bose sound great but are by far too expensive (a 2.1 system costs as much as some 7.1 systems) sony speakers are trash and klipsch use a metal tweeter (I forget the type of metal) and in turn made a lot of the sound produced to sound metallic. Yamaha are good if you go an economical route and get an HTIB and they have pretty good recievers but their high end stuff is as good as denon's middle of the road stuff and denon was considerably cheaper.

kid,you think that magnolia theater is high..well,it really isnt. Its more upper "consumer" level. Now for me,its just fine and id be happy with a lot of what they sell..except their speaker selection. Its all about the speakers!!.There are so many high end brands most people on this site couldnt afford. From about age 16-til 35 looking to get my grubby mits on some serious high end shit.I used to think sony es was creme of the crop. Then I found out that in reality, cost is simply no barrier to the never ending pursuit of hi fi.So i gave up and now I just sit back with what Ive got and left it at that...most of the time I enjoy the shit out of my headphones..hd 650s

if best bi would stop being shitbricks and start treating their customers with a little respect...and stop expanding like the galaxy itself, they might be able to stay in business...oh and stop hiring fat tight pants wearing 16 yo girls with blackberry hair..that might put them over the top!

As far as the high end consumer market for jacksonville, it is pretty limited to online shopping and magnolia room. There are a couple of niche audiophile stores but they are few and far between. I do agree though that magnolia is no where near the scale of what some companies produce

I did a ton of research into hifi a couple years back and I forgot most of what I looked at but I seen some stuff that just blew my mind
5 years ago
out here in california...we still have some hifi salons.real pompous douches many of them.I went to the CES show in 2005..i saw some very $$$$$$ goodies.....120K 1000 watt mono blocks from krell...all sorts of extremely expensive speakers by the likes of jm labs, wilson audio, dynaudio etc.I left that show despondent. If you want some good sounds and youre not getting it from your existing rig..try out some PSB or B&W's...nice sound and for some of their speakers, not bad pricing. Its all anyone needs imho

everything you just said was a huge stroll through memory lane. I researched most of those speaker companies you mentioned along with Focal and one that was hand crafted in tennessee (iirc)

for a laugh check out http://www.mbl-northamerica.com/main/
and http://www.stereophile.com/category/audacious-audio

take a stroll down that list of ass-rammingly $$$$$$$$ retarded gear.Like I said..i just got used to my headphones or my modest little setup and thats it for me.Fucking million dollar speakers my ass.
Fuck you whunu

that was the same conclusion I came too as well after meticulously listening to speakers day in and out and doing a ton of research. So that's why when I move in august I'm going to save up and get polk tsi speakers and an amp/receiver combo by yamaha, denon or pioneer

Once you get to a certain level in hifi you have to spend an awful amount of money to get a tiny improvement. And a lot of it is bullshit, especially the poncey cables.
you are 100% right on that Ex...my personal favorite is the boutique "power" cables..and power conditioning-the idea that fluctuations in voltages from ordinary power sources having negative effects on sound. And how about them cable risers?..its all rich guy circle jerking
