Currently, the 50 cent coins are minted only for collectors. There's a huge backlog since almost no one used them except casinos, and those have mostly gone to non-coin gaming.
possum...you are always forgetting that youre 32 years older than everyone one on here...having said that, yeah i remember them big ass dollar coins..manhole covers
I do believe so Smerf, and Possum yes, those are rare, you don't see to many in circulation. My father was a numismatist, so I've always been around it. I befriended a local convenience store clerk, and she and her father were coin collectors as well. She'd show me the shit people would bring in to pay with, during this recession people are using whatever they can, it's crazy, she'd just accept the money and then change it out for common currency she had on her.
Oh, I forgot to mention poss, that if you wanted to, you can take that silver certificate to a bank and they legally have to pay you in pure silver if you ask :)
i have heard that, dush- and i'm waiting for a day when i just wanna Make Folks Angry To Make Mice Elf Feel Better
...next up - i pay my utility bill in pennies....
ps - does anybody else still collect "wheat pennies" ?
Yessir, sure do. If you can get your hands on a 1943 Bronze, the circulated value is $18,000.00 and the uncirculated (which would be EXTREMELY unlikely to find and more than likely belongs to a serious collector) is worth $80,000. An uncirculated 1943 D Bronze is worth $1,000,000.00!!!
@toaster--if you get a "weird" coin, that's what the far left space is for in your register. you can always give it to the next person that has change coming.

And just to point out, we have $1 coins in America too. Remember the Sacajawea dollar coin? Or as I like to call them: "Squawbucks"
