Internet Filter Bubbles, Eli Pariser TED Talks

Sorry if this bores some of you guys, but I think its a pretty interesting TED Talk. It talks about how the Internet is slowly being turned into from unbiased freedom of what you are trying to look for to 'tailor made' views... its turning more into shoveling content into your face that the Internet thinks you should be seeing, rather than what you might really want to see.

Interesting talk. With all the data being uploaded every second to the web I can see why tailoring results to the user would be a good idea but at the same time it removes your freedom and ability to choose what you want.

in essence its the exact same thing as media outlets hiding news like places like cnn and fox and shit do while pumping their own agendas..
whats to say that a company that is massive that literally runs a lot of the internet tries to force down a new site, or a new program on users? oh wait... a company does do that already.. its called google with their chrome shit plastered everywhere a year ago and now with google+
when you let large corporations start to do these things... its a very steep and slippery slope.. then one day you wake up and realize that you are literally dependent on that single corporation...
happened to me a year or so ago when i started looking into how much data google actually collects on people (this is after one of googles famous <famous to website owners> 'google shuffles') i started to think 'what would happen one day if google just *stopped*?' well... my personal email would be fucked, all of muchos analytics would be fucked etc etc..
thats when i decided to take it on myself to 'get away' from google as much as humanly possible and start searching out alternatives that werent owned by google (not an easy task considering how many companies google owns and is constantly buying)...

I've noticed that a lot of blogs and other sites that bill themselves as/ or at first seem to be independent, are parroting the big tv and radio media more and more. Just to throw out an example, I see Ron Paul being marginalized on the net WAY more than he used to be. Concerted effort? Lots of sites deleting the mexi cartel execution vids in the U.S. while still featuring the middle east ones. Hmm. Eventually the freedom of exchanging ideas we enjoy on the internet is going to be gone, it's just a matter of time.

Have three gmail accounts and noticed when you go to lots of other sites without deleting your cache or cookies or whatever they recognize you immediately. What all info does google gather, and is it permanently attached to your ip adress, or only if you don't clear out the aforementioned?

Said Dale Gribble while adjusting the angle of his tinfoil hat.

thats what id like to know. and a "dale gribble" is seen as a conspiracy nut but everything needs to be recognized at all angles. all this power these corporations have is not good for us in general

the only issue with mucho is, some of our users dont actually understand how the voting on the site works, or dont actually understand what mucho is about :P
