yea... the kid who lives in his parents basement who has launched an unprofitable website who is now helping other startups design and launch unprofitble meme generators

I think you hit this point quite well. How many sites are there with as many people as 4chan gets that does not want to drive a profit out of it.
you are kinda missing my point...
his job is now literally throwing away vc into shit...
hes now one of the problems of the internet....
I didn't miss it, i would argue that any time money is involved, the idea changes entirely. Difference between a hobby and a job. Do you honestly think 4Chan would be what it is filled with ads? Hell even look at mucho during construction, when 90% of the page was an ad, how many people persisted through all of it.
^
yeah what he said
um.... 4chan is filled with ads always has had ads.......
There is a difference between having 1 banner at the top of a page to cover the cost of the website vs having a page filled with them to gain a large sum of money from marketing.
when you have millions of users you can get away with 1 banner to cover the cost... when you don't, you need more to cover the cost
6 years ago
there really isnt a difference actually, one is bad business sense (who is now helping other business owners drive the usa further into a tehnological recession) tho.
I understand that, my point being, he still has 1 banner, when he could have 5 and be making MASSIVE amounts of money from it.
both of you dont really understand how ads work, a site like 4chan is on a pretty thin thread to begin with in regards to advertisers because its a home for illegal activities.
he couldnt have more ads, because the ctr would be non existent and his affiliates would drop him.

y u mad tho yak?

how many times you been nominated for an time magazine award?

i'll sum it up for you guys, since apparently people think that this is some sort of new concept:
Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.

the majority of the boards are either about stupid nameless tweens wanting an "1337 army" to help them get back at an ex or of child pornography. Bravo moot, you've brought out the worst in people. you are fucking clown shoes
6 years ago
You are acting like these people did not think this way until 4chan came along. Look at 1/2 the comments on mucho, do you really think people are this racist and sexist in their daily lives, dont think so.
thats kind of what i was saying to deja just now when she said 'uh.. usually ted talks are interesting'

what people dont get is that 4chan used to be ok.. back when it was young until *LITERAL* children clung onto it because they werent allowed to go onto other sites like SA and shit (this was back quite awhile ago)...
this like moot said sprang from asian websites, where asian people as a culture view the internet COMPLETELY differently, they demand privacy, which is why facebook is having a really hard time over there, because most say, japanese people NEVER use their real name online and facebooks tos states you have to or else you can (and eventually do) get banned.

4chan is a prime example of how a site that is ran like shit turns into shit. when you have 'complete' anonymity and a shitty bunch of moderation, it turns into basically an online version of lord of the flies, which isn't for the greater good of anything nor is it even INTERESTING..
uh the difference between here and mucho is most of the people on mucho are actually quite mature and most of it (nearly all of it) is satire...
id like to talk to 'moot' about some things actually.. specifically his views on how 4chan is basically the public home for child pornography, and how he thinks that is a GOOD thing..
i clearly meant THERE and mucho ;/
also... any fucktard spamming stupid bullshit like IM FIRIN MAH LAZORZZZZ or DESU DESU DESU like a goddamn retard is going to be called out on here for what they are.
there is a certain amount of anonymity that is needed for open discussion and taking it to the extreme (just like political or religious views) is not just dumb its actually WRONG
6 years ago
and by wrong i mean irresponsible.

Yeah but understand that most people that would call him out here have decided that the community on mucho is something they like, they don't want it filled with that crap. We will call them out, and yes they will probably get banned. But you must also make the distinction between channels at 4chan. 90% of people there stay within one forum. They have gained the same type of community in those channels like we have in mucho. You stray from the norm of the channel, and you get torn to shit.
look, it was a fun song and dance back in the IRC days. A little club house for exchanging ideas and we had our own brand of humor. It's been completely bastardized and honestly I think it is a damn shame.
times change lord times change! :P
I feel like I've progressed as a comprehensible human being after I left that place over a year ago. also yes, I am very appreciative this website looks down on the nonsensical spamming bullshit that floods internet boards now of days.
how can you have a type of community when everyone posts as anonymous? we have community here... and we're as anonymous as people want to be themselves...
Just to throw it out there though, i do agree with you guys that 4chan has turned to shit from what it was. But when there are so few places to go on the internet that has the mentality of 4chan, is it any wonder that all those people turn up in the same place.
@deja Community as a type of norm for the forum, not like a "hey yak whats up" "Not much Possum how bout you!" community.
i come from the bbs days where community was everything.. and when the internet came up and pretty much singlehandedly destroyed that i jumped for irc which at least could have the same kind of feel.. even though not really the same platform
i still miss the bbs days tho... thats kinda how i would like mucho to be... its just a shame about the internet being how it is
i believe people should be as anonymous as they want to be on any given forum.. and i think with mucho we give people the ability to be as anonymous as they want to be (no registration and such is just a bad idea as displayed by pretty much everything from 4chan to guestbook spam tho in my opinion)
at least thats my 2 cents
oh cool i can go to 4 chan for kiddy porn. thanks for the tip. aaaaaand im out
6 years ago
Why do you think we are all here, and have continued to come back. We enjoy your creation yak.
very true yak, but damnit we as an internet based community have learned from these mistakes can actually recognize these filth mongers.
a community that has no real identifiable 'faces' or actual members is not really a community, its a gang of nobodies... a community where there is no *people* just an idea isnt a community at all..
I'd say 4chan fits the definition of community very well.

2. a group of people having cultural, religious, ethnic, or other characteristics in common: the Protestant community
3. a group of nations having certain interests in common
4. the public in general; society
5. common ownership or participation
6. similarity or agreement: community of interests
6 years ago
but its a community non the less of really really dumb people. Mass genocide and a gallon of bleach wouldn't clean up the grease shit stain it's left on the internet
