I call bullshit unless the video shows him catch it, and then fab it right there. Fuckin bullshit.
ya that has to be bullshit..not funny either..double fail
8 years ago
It's not bullshit. There is an are of plastic in the Pacific Ocean that is the siz of Texas. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnUjTHB1lvM&feature=related

if you tube says it.. it must be true right mako
8 years ago
use your fucking eyes there are photo satellites that are publicly available so anyone can look for this so called area of plastic that is the size of texas.. lol.. how do people get away with spreading this bullshit.

I once caught a perch made entirely of rubber.

Okay, if you don't believe youtube, do you believe PBS? http://www.pbs.org/odyssey/odyssey/20050428_log_transcript.html

this says NOTHING about a plastic island the size of texas, all it says is there is garbage floating in the oceans... no shit...
The size is an estimate, of course. But it is known that it is comprised of 80% plastic. A plastic water bottle takes about 450 years to decompose, so who knows how large the area will become.
There is well documented cases of people finding weird shit in the stomachs of sharks.
I have heard of the large collections of garbage in the ocean recently but only on the internet, so far nothing on tv or in print.

Here a couple links on the subject-

Since stories have started surfacing more recently, many have wondered, if the rumors are true. Are there really 'continents', or massive
floating garbage patches residing in the pacific ocean? Apparently, the rumors are true, and these unsightly patches are reportedly
killing marine life and releasing poisons that enter the human food chain, as well. However, before you start imagining a plastic version of Maui, keep in mind that these plastic patches certainly aren'tsolid surfaced islands that you could build a house on! Ocean currents have collected massive amounts of garbage into a sort of plastic "soup" where countless bits of discarded plastic float intertwined just beneath the surface. Indeed, the human race has really made its mark. One enormous plastic patch is estimated to weigh over 3 million tons altogether and cover an area roughly twice the size of Texas.

One brilliant summer morning in 2000, the small private research vessel Alguita discovered a 10-mile-wide flotilla of the disposable sacks, an estimated 6 million of them destined for Taco Bells around the country, bobbing more than 1,000 miles west of the Ventura store. We were out in the middle of the Pacific, where you would think the ocean would be pristine, recalls the Alguitas captain, Charles Moore. And instead, we get the Exxon Valdez of plastic-bag spills.

yet more hippy propaganda... find me a patch thats anywhere near that big on google earth.. if any exist you would be able to find them on there no problem.
of course there will be some patches of garbage, i mean they probably fell off of junk boats and shit but the size of texas? 100x bs.. if you took all the garbage in the ocean and combined it MAYBE i could buy it.

It's my understanding, that as the plastic photo degrades and is ingested by fish, it ends up in their muscle tissue, eventually leading to larger breasts in women after consumption, Asians especially so.
on a side note, you ever try to feed a fish a piece of plastic? they spit it out ;/
8 years ago
Fish will try and eat everything, like a bum trying to pry a glued quarter off a sidewalk.
It's a well known fact that Al Gores' private island is built on a flotilla of old milk jugs and used condoms.
So, just for kicks.

Texas is 286,00 sq mi.

Assume 1 large plastic bottle covers 1 sqft.

You could put *roughly* 27878000 bottles per sq mile.

So, to cover up something roughly the size of Texas, you'd need roughly 7973222400000 bottles. Highly unlikely.

there's no magic plastic island..that's crazy
8 years ago
We're not talking about garbage, yak, we're talking about plastic alone. Even better, let's talk about styrofoam. Remember how fast food chains used to box their burgers and such in styrofoam conatainers? Styrofoam does not decompose. Which means if you put a piece of styrofoam in the ocean, it's there forever. Plastic, on the other hand, only takes a few hundred years, so I can see how that's much better. Hell, a sheet of paper takes 2-5 years to decompose. My point is that we're dumping plastic and other toxic materials into the ocean at a rate that the planet can't handle. And I don't think I need to tell you what the long term effects of ingesting plastic are.

Save it for Starfleet.

They dubbed it "organic island" at first, but then people caught on, and they had to re name it "lot's of stuff island" to further fool folks.
This fucking thing is floating in international waters anyway, whats the point, North Korea will put a man on the moon before anyone cleans that shit up.
hahahaha rockets to the moon..that's crazy

The last thing I'll leave you guys with was a study of the effects of plastic on marine ecosystems. This was posted on the US's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration website.

im sure it was meant to be THROUGHOUT the ocean, not all mounded together in one giant pile the size of texas... really people think. we know whoever said that there was an amount of plastic the size of texas and wouldnt clarify as to whether it was all in one place or not..
and as far as all the trash in the ocean and laying on a flat surface.. wouldnt surprise me if it came close, but the size of texas is nothing compared to the oceans.
did you not watch the video mako posted? it specifically says there are actual garbage islands the size of texas......
Plastic island...that sounds awsome. What ever fish eats plastic fails in life.

I watched Zeitgeist the other day, 'cause it just happened to come on TV when I was muchoing. After it was finished I was left thinking "those fucking bastards I can't believe they're getting away with this shit". Then I regained my senses...
zeitgeist was on tv? amazing. you have to take the last bit with a grain of salt, but the federal reserve & religious sections were definitely eye openers.
The first & seconds, actually. Surprisingly though, they put Zeitgeist: ADDENDUM the day before the first one.

They were on a channel called 'controversial tv', bet your not surprised I watch that.
with that horrible diet of yours it doesn't surprise me.

We killed about 20 fish at uni. It wasn't until after we gave up trying to keep them that we heard you're not supposed to put in a pinch of food per fish.
and by food you mean plastic chips
Its ok to eat fish, cause they don't have any feelings.
The fish was probably living with that plastic in its gullet for weeks or months and than along came along greenpiss, and whammo!fillets the fuckin thing
