I guess nobody remembers "Willie".

You might remember the song Stevie Ray Vaughan did on the Live Alive album called “Willie the Wimp”.
Stevie Ray Vaughan (wiki) died in a helicopter crash in ‘90 while I was at the height of a manic SRV-fandom episode. I felt the loss like I’d known him personally and like no one would ever play blues guitar again. “Willy the Wimp” was about a funeral and turned up loud it worked better as a eulogy than the Captain Morgan’s rum did.

I learned today that Willie the Wimp was a real person, a gangster of sorts. He was shot to death in 1984 and really was buried in his Cadillac coffin.

Willie the Wimp
written by R. Ellsworth & B. Carter

Willie the Wimp was buried today,
They laid him to rest in a special way.
Sent him off in the finest style
That casket-mobile really drove ‘em wild
Southside Chicago will think of him often
Talkin’ ’bout Willie the Wimp and his Cadillac coffin,
Willie the Wimp and his Cadillac coffin
