UK traffic cops have had this for three years now. that said its not very effective. it runs the plate and then reports if the car is insured and registered.

Well notice that it's not in the UK dumbass. Yes. Notice how our shit works! Yours? Well fuck. Whatever. Go to a dentist. We drive a whole lot more compared to your country. Hey! Who's land mass consists of the size of my state and perhaps one other? LOL! Anyway, this is like a Philip K. Dick novel comming to life.

Good deal, if you haven't committed a crime you have nothing to worry about. After all a computer can't arrest you.

In the US, we can drive without insurance so long as we don't become the target of asshole drivers who really don't have insurance

This is from Canada anyway.

Hey Ruez, what happens when posting on a place that shows sexually violent videos and has racist comments becomes is enough for your plate to go on the list?

Think about it.More and more the gov't knows what your doing because of technology.

El_Wanko, if we allow that to happen than we have more to worry about than license plate recognition.

Before clicking on this vid, I would've sworn there'd be a comment about how americas becoming a police state or something....

We are, hgrr. We are just trying it out on Canada first so we have the kinks worked out for when we finish turning into a police state. First the invasion of privacy under the guise of "protecting" us and then our guns. Then profit.

Yeah well, Canada actually has the resources to pull this off. Best of luck America.

nah....i dont think a 1984 type scenarios ever really possible. orwell sorta precluded that by writing 1984. awareness is half the battle.
Providing most people have read it. While you are certainly right about awareness, this does not mean it cannot happen. WW2 has happened, even though no one believed it would. And 1984 scenario is really matching more and more to the world situation now.

America made a movie about 1984. Of course Hollywood put it in their own genre by having a hero and bullshit that wasn't in the book and so the message was lost. American politicians have learned that as long as you promise things you have no way in hell to deliver and out smear your opponent, you can pretty much do what you want.

Just because it's not happening exactly as it is in the book doesn't mean we're not flirting with such a scenario. Sure you don't have mandatory surveillance inside your house but I think if you step out onto the street in any major city in England, chances are a camera can spot you.
I recall an article recently showing that there were about 20 closed circuit cameras operating near and about Orwell's former home.
Authorities are also considering public microphones which would be able to recognise particular words and voices. I can't imagine the sort of mistakes that could occur, not to mention the reluctance to speak my mind to a friend in a public place.
