I'm from Hamilton myself as well. Yes the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum did have a fire, but that was a very long time ago, this shot is from the new museum that was built afterwards. I don't believe they lost anything irreplaceable in the fire. The Avro Lancaster was built in Britain during world war 2. It was used a long range bomber, mainly for dam-busting duties in Germany. This is in fact one of TWO that continue to fly today! The other one is in Britain. If you are from Hamilton you will see this thing quite often in the air, the CWHM prides itself on its ownership of the Lancaster, and its ability to fly! I will tell you something, when you hear the roar of the engines over your house, you needn't look out the window, you just know it's the Lancaster!!

correct me if i'm wrong. And i'm sure somebody will! But i thought that last year the one remaining flying lancaster in the UK was about to be grounded. Something to do with new insurance regs whereby because of its size it was now to be classed as commercial and the premiums where going to go 100s and 100s of %. Anyone know anything about that?

The lancaster flies every year, including 2005, at the Hamilton/Toronto Labour Day Classic...if you're interested in seeing them fly in formation with those fighter's, it's a good time...September.

As far as I recall it's now the only flying Lancaster in existence today. Didn't they do a reality tv show where people had to form a bomber crew and fly a B-17 while one guy got to fly this one?

See I work at Hamilton Airport and you should hear this thing when it taxis by, those 4 Murlins sound mint. Anywho on May 6th a Hurrican came in and it's tail wheel broke. It'd be bitching if those two went in formation. Most of the piston planes fly at the museum, but the jets can't, you see for them to fly we would need a active fighter pilot and the last time one of those came throught was on rememberance day when an F-18 came in.
