I started to think it looked a little like a Porsche, but I can see the similarities towards the Lotus Elise. Hmm, wonder what one of these babies costs?

They cost between US$85,000 and 120,000 depending on the options. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesla_Roadster

Cool car... just a shame that the interview was conducted by 2 freaks.

Electric cars are still a waste of time as fossil fuels are still needed to be burned in order to create electricity. They should devote their time into producing completely self-sufficent fueled vehicles.....

I don't know if I'd say electric cars are a waste of time but I definitely don't think they are the answer to all our problems. This is probably the coolest one yet.

^^ Wouldn't the logical conclusion be to develop renewable energy technologies for our electrical grid rather than developing a self-sufficient car?

Besides some electricity is already being made without the need to burn fuels

(at least directly, lets not get into the fact it probably took some fossil fuel energy to produce the electricity required to manufacture renewable energy technology).

So I wonder why the Oil Companies haven'y a) had him killed, or b) payed him all the money ever to go and live on hooker island. DAMN! Movies/conspiracy theories have been lying to me all this time.

cooooool looks pretty fast wonder what the top speed is ?
I doubt the top speed is very high. It's probably capable of high speeds but I'm assuming it doesn't have a transmission. If it does 0-60 in 4 seconds the top speed is probably 60 to 80 mph. I noticed the salesman didn't mention the top speed--probably a big turn off for sports car enthusiasts rich enough to buy a $120k car that won't do 100mph. A two speed transmission would suffice but then you have the whole weight issue.

I doubt you have any idea what you are talking about.

From the website...

Zero to 60 mph in about 4 seconds with a top speed of over 130 mph*. But this is not the whole story. Because it has no clutch and a very wide, flat torque curve, the acceleration of the Tesla Roadster is much more available to enjoy: just step on the accelerator and go - no matter what speed you are driving, no matter what gear you are in, the acceleration is instantaneous.

* We are currently in the midst of the important and time-consuming safety and durability testing for the Tesla Roadster. While we are confident of our numbers, this testing may require design changes that affect the final specifications.

Basically, my Jetta Gli has a higher top speed, but this car is still cool.
