I like old BMWs
Lol dv
The old 7 series especially.
The fastest I've ever driven in a car, was in a 2003 BMW M5/ E39, on the road that leads to Syracuse-Hancock airport. It was electronically limited to 155 mph.
did 135 in a '74 Plymouth Bonneville once...rip 455 :(
1 year ago
or was it a 456?
meh i got laid innit so whatev
too bad it was lime green and rusty though - the car, not me
1 year ago
I think you mean a Pontiac Bonneville, Poss. And yes, the 455 was optional that year.
dammit yah pontiac - unbelievable power...i never knew what i had until it vass gone

story of my life
That engine in '74 had 250 horsepower, which was pretty good for a big lead sled in the 70's. That was the last year before they started putting catalytic converters on cars, I think. I wasn't even born yet, so I could be wrong.
big lead sled...i like that phrase - exactly what it felt like
...zero to 40 in ten seconds...40 to 110 in the next five
1 year ago
I use that term for cars of that era, but technically it's supposed to refer to the Mercury Eight's from the 1949-51 model years. Great ride for hot rodding.
Amateurs..... I had the wonderful experience of driving an Audi R8 up to about 180 / 185 mph..... absolutely nothing like it.....
That's car that belongs on a race track anyway. Try driving that fucker during a winter around here.
I was on a track with that one.... it was great....
For winter... I'll stick with the faithful 4runner
1 year ago
I bet it was fun, tbh. At 155 I started to get disoriented and decided to slow down. It's like everything starts flying past you faster than your brain can process it.
the trick is to look further ahead than you normally do
1 year ago
*125. 155 was the car's max speed. If it hadn't been controlled, I bet that 4.9 liter could've hit 180.
Oh, I always do that, Nix. They taught us that in NTTS.
Further than that, even.... an Audi R8 is very different than a tractor trailer....
I still meet people to this day, that think a tractor trailer can stop quicker than a car because it has air brakes.
naaaa..... the increase weight provides more resistive friction which allows it to stop quicker...
That's something fries would say.
well, he is pretty smart with this kind of stuff, ya know......
Yeah, I'm sure he was well aware of how fast his moped could stop.
I would hope so... that's pretty critical info to have.
I was always told to plan on at least 525 feet (160 meters) of stopping distance with an 80,000 pound load from 65 mph on dry pavement.
pfff, a strong brick wall or a stupid pole can cut that down to zero feet.
dry OR wet pavement.
Stupid poles.
You're close on the stop time minnow, but the top weight without extra endorsement is 75,000 lbs
1 year ago
In America anyway
Because the top weight allowed with a 53 foot trailer and a tractor for a total of 72 feet is 75,000 pounds
1 year ago
Unless you go doubles or triple trailers, triples only legal in certain us states
1 year ago
your top weight is 800 lbs
Talking responsible driving for real
why dont you take fucking off for real?
I suppose drivers like us can ignore the rules and rum two wheelers like over
1 year ago
*run
By the way, that little rule doesn't apply to flat beds in most "industrial" states. *cough* Michigan *cough*
1 year ago
Don't ask why I know that. I just do.
i for one know better than to ask why you know anything capt stubing
1 year ago
Which rule Kirk, the weight because its a flatbed
1 year ago
Touché bearded one.
thats also how whuna gets around..riding on a flatbed
1 year ago
Let's just say somebody in this thread has seen 4 x 50k# steel coils loaded on a flat bed to be taken for galvanizing....and once or twice 5.
Not saying it didn't happen, but it's nothing I've ever heard of. However I don't pull flatbeds "mostly reefers" , but I still know sate rules.

Maybe there are variances depending on the state and freight, it has been known to happen
1 year ago
Even if you don't, if you ever see coil carriers, they almost always carry two coils, which will average 45-50k# un-galvanized. Zinc galvanizing on 1g-1g steel will add another few k pounds. Michigan does not regulate that, nor does Ohio (sort of)
Well I can't dispute or agree, as I said I haul reefers, and only reginal within my four sate region.

Easy job really. Called hook and book...no hands on. Drop a trailer, connect another to the fifth wheel, drop at its destination and move on.
Then you would know why they'd want to carry two coils...think axle placement. That kind of weight is a lot of the reason roads are so poor in a lot of the Great Lake states, especially Michigan....

You know because I'm a mall cop according to certain people here
1 year ago
"Hook and book "

It just gets better and better. Whumu drinking hard lemonade to forget about his stressful life as a "booker hooker ".
Honestly though, 4 state truck driver: even sadder than mall cop.
Never heard of "hook and book" driving. I've heard of drop and hook, maybe it's the same thing. The max gross weight of a shipment with a tractor trailer combination is 80,000 lbs.
U turn then get the hell out of there
Drop and hook meant you drop off one trailer, then just hook up to another and leave when your paperwork is done. Usually no loading/ unloading.
I suppose you could be right, although I was taught that its was 75 78,000 maxed out.
*75 ~ 78,000
Hook and book is just slang for dropping and hooking, same thing
1 year ago
100% no touch freight
Shitbird

honestly though.....regional driving hauling reefers makes for a decent life, especially with the right Co. and the right pay "percentage per run, or per mile"
I was taught that the max was 75,000 too, tbh...but what they told us upon graduation was to go by that figure so that you don't make a mistake and haul an overweight trailer/ load.
My biggest gripe was that steer axle limits vary from state to state, or at least they did when I drove.
Pffff, just avoid the chicken coops and you'll be fine.
Meh, I don't have that concern to worry about per say with my runs.I'm also still learning as I go along.

But in as much as I know it's either 12,000 or 20,000 in most states. A handful of others vary.
I'll stuck to the mall cop story for now. Way more comedic potential. Truck driver is just sad.
Also you think driving regional is bad?

No! OTR is not what I want, I like being home. Regional I'm only out one or two nights at a time and I enjoy the same pay.

OTR is what young guys want so they can travel, or any single guys wanting to work more miles.
