A Really Slick Card Trick

I was actually a little impressed with this one.... not too flashy but pretty slick.

My guess:

Deck is a trick/set deck containg almost all red cards which are 8 of diamonds. 1 blue card which is 5 of spades and one red card which is 5 of spades.

Deck is set so that the blue 5 of spades starts on the very bottom of the deck (near one end so it won't be spread far enough to see it's blue) and the red 5 of spades right on top of it (important for later as it is controlled to the bottom of the deck again).

Keeping the blue card covered he spreads most of the deck out, a red 8 of diamonds is chosen (obviously).

He picks up the deck, starts cutting off from the top (always leaving the blue 5 of spades on the bottom and the red 5 of spades right on top of it, this is why he cuts in chunks, so he can make it look like he is mesing the cards, up but still control the important chunk) stops aroudn the middle, puts the red 8 of diamonds on top of cut cards, puts remaining deck on top (note, the bottom of the remaing cards is the bottom of the original pile, which is the blue 5 of spades) this puts the blue 5 of spades near the center of the deck and the red 5 of spades right on top of it. Note since most of the deck is red 8 of diamonds the 5 of spades is now right on top of a red 8 of diamonds.

He fans out cards, showing the blue card which is now near the center, cuts deck at the blue card and puts the deck together so blue is on top, cutting at the blue card also means that the card right over it (the red 5 of spades) is now on the bottom of the deck (if you cut a deck, and put the top half on the bottom, the card right above the original top half, now becomes the bottom card).

With the blue 5 of spades on top and a red 8 of diamonds right under it, he carefully (and rather obviously) grabs two cards at once, turning them over as one so that the red 8 of diamonds now lies face up ontop of the blue 5 of spades. At this point the red 5 of spades is still on the bottom of the deck.

Does the same and turns them over leaving the blue 5 of spades face down on top. Peels off the blue 5 of spades and put's it on the table. Red 5 of spades, still untouched on the bottom of the deck.

He then cuts off chunks again, giving the feeling of randomness by saying stop whenever. Note that no matter how many cards you cut off the top of a deck, the bottom card of the deck is always the same, in this case the untouched red 5 of spades.

When he stops at a random spot, he doens't show you the card he stopped cutting at, he shows you the bottom of the stack which is the red 5 of spades (try this with a deck, put the ace of spades on the bottom, cut chunks off the top, at any time show the bottom of the deck, it is obviously still the ace of spades).

This was a forced match for the blue 5 of spades sitting on the table. He shows there is no other blue card in the deck while falsely searching for a blue card, then shows you the blue 5 of diamonds.

Note he never shows the deck entirely face up (which usually is a sign of a trick deck, in this case almost all red 8 of diamonds) and that the rare occasion you catch a peak of the bottom of the deck between his fingers, it appears to be the 5 of spades which was forced to the bottom early on.

What do you think?

The second paragraph should have read:

Deck is set so that the blue 5 of spades starts on the very bottom of the deck (so when he spreads it out, the very bottom card is still covered by the one above it) and the red 5 of spades right on top of it (important for later as it is controlled to the bottom of the deck again).

@devedander ur right about the double 5s, BUT there is only one 8 of d and and it IS a FREE choice... he couldve showed the deck face up but judging from this guys performance he learned this trick online and has no idea about the importance of presentation is in magic..
PS. what da hell makes u think there r multiple 8 of d's, u stoopid dumb little child you.... good try though

"Hezbollah"? His magic word is the name of a radical Lebanese Islamic militia? I wonder what the magic word "Hamas" will produce...

ok people i do a few magic tricks myself.Free choice doesn´t always mean you chose the card you want.must of the times you are forced to pick a card the guy wants.

re:rabbet

Ouch...

Anyhow, I thought it through again and yes you are right it doesn't have to be a whole deck of 8d... I have a deck of all Ace hearts (trick deck) that is used for other purposes, but can be useful in forcing a pick that looks truly random (ie no count down this many, no forced cuts)...

oh... and you are a fag...

My guess is that you he picks one card, this time 8. Shuffle and takes the blue card on top of the deck..Picks 2 cards when he turns the blue card. somehow he manage to put the 8 second place in the deck. and somehow he gets the 5 of spades from the deck, blue card is 5 of spades. easy as that.

The 2card picking when he show us the 8 of clubs is realy badly done. u can see him hold his fingers realy hard to hold the second card...
