Ya know what's funny? The drive-in down the street from me is probably just opening for tonight.
Jeez,you still have one?
That's one thing i would love to do, is go to a drive in movie, i don't think there is a drive in in the whole if Ireland?
I'd be surprised if there were 10 left in the US

https://www.transitdrivein.com/ During the summer they're open 7 nights a week. The line of cars stretches along the shoulder of the road for almost a mile on busier nights.

Been open since 1952, and the show no signs of slowing down.

*they

So they are still popular with people obviously, so why are there so few of them left?

takes up a lot of real estate
Well, for starters, they were always really popular in upstate NY, but most people just want to go to a mall and see a movie inside a soundproof theater, with surround sound. Drive-in's don't give you that luxury, but it's fun, especially if you have kids, and it's cheap. And the food is actually pretty good at the concession stand.

lol....it's "smoke free"

And yeah, it takes up a lot of real estate, there's a lot of overhead costs, especially insurance, and it's also seasonal. Transit stays open till the snow flies, but ya gotta figure they have to shut down at least four or five months of the year here, considering the winters we have.

Plus if your going to see a new comedy, i'm sure you can light up a spliff in the car, and then munch the head of yourself with popcorn and hot dogs.

We have one here but it's closed down and only open on weekends for a swap meet.

That's too bad. It's a dieing art, really-a part of American culture. In the 60's drive-ins were everywhere here. I have a THX audio system in my Lincoln, and the movies are broadcast in HD and surround sound, so it sounds beautiful in my car. And yeah, you can pretty much do what you want in your car as long as kids can't see ya.

So they simulcast now....no speakers?
I mean, we had Lakeshore drive-in in my hometown, Midway (which is still open) about a half hour away in Minetto, De Witt drive-in in East Syracuse, Lakeshore drive-in in Liverpool...as I said, only one of them is still open.
They still have the speakers, Claude, if you want to use them, but yeah, they do simulcast. It's all very up to date, really. Plus they even give ya free wi-fi.
Hm, well, they might find a way to keep it in style if they stay high-tech. Kids will always want to f*** in cars.

It's similar to the pub situation in Ireland, pubs are part of Irish culture, and when tourists come over they like to visit all the dir=different pubs for the music and atmosphere. But 2 years ago there was a pub a day closing in Ireland especially in rural areas, so all the pubs that are left are these flash new bars, with cocktails and fancy food. The traditional pubs are fading away.
lol....reminds me of World's End
Eh, traditional pubs that were run by the Irish in Syracuse are all but a memory, too. Rosie O'Grady's was open for something like 75 years and they turned it into some half-assed sports bar. First time I ever fucked a married woman was in their parking lot. Good times.

"Go down to the Winchester, have a pint..."

I'm a young man so it doesn't really bother me, because i like to go out and watch a soccer math on the big screen and listen to dance music and all that. But sometimes it's a good laugh to go into an old fashioned pub with traditional music, there is always a better buzz in those places.

First time I ever got head was at this drive in just outside of my home town(yes from a chick, INB4 the 'from a guy' bs).
Yeah, if you were born in the 60's or early 70's in the U.S. there's a chance you were conceived at a drive-in.
I think there is only one left in MA, but that one might actually be gone by now, The countertops in my kitchen are actually from the snack bar of the old drive in that was in town..
