The recent horrible massacre of a classroom full of children and the school employees has brought up the usual knee jerk "solutions" to violence. The politicians are calling for more gun control. We should know by now that no gun control law will be obeyed by criminals any more than they obey drug laws or illegal entry into the country. If banning alcohol worked, Prohibition would have been the shining star of legislation in the twentieth century. No more drunks to cause accidents, violence or petrified livers. Yeah! Right! Yet, politicians will make speeches, comments and write laws to be offered to "stop gun violence." We should know by now that this is all wind and no sail. The problem in not the instrument, but rather the person wielding it. Guns don't kill. Deranged people with any kind of a weapon or just brute force kill. The first murderer, according to the Bible, was Cain who slew Abel. We don't know what kind of weapon he used, but we know for certain it wasn't a gun. From the second generation of man, the acting out of evil thoughts was part of the inborn instincts that come with life. Survival is a natural instinct common to all living beings, but the act of murder is a vice committed only by humans. From the age of the cave man to present day humans only the instrument used in murders have changed. Regardless of the technology in weapon efficiency, the root cause of murder lies in the mind of the murderer. If one weapon is not available, he will find an alternate means. There is only one degree of death and the instrument used is not relative. Timothy McVeigh killed more than a hundred people and never fired a shot. More than a hundred people in New York City were burned to death by a fire bomb wielding murderer. A California serial killer chopped up his victims with a machete. Most of the recent mass shootings have been in gun free zones. This is the ideal place for a sociopath to do his deadly deed. Which is why I alway say if more people carried guns, less people would try this. There is nobody there that can stop him if he goes to a school, post office, church, mall or theater where the people in charge but up the signs prohibiting the carrying of a firearm. Back to the original premise. Why do they think a person who is determined to take as many lives as possible is going to pay attention to their sign? But the real reason for the attitude of murder and mayhem by our people might easily be traced to their conditioning as they grow up. Violence is considered to be entertaining. It starts with the cartoons the kids watch as Popeye solves all his problems by opening a can of spinach and beating up Bluto. Elmer Fudd carries his gun to kill the cwazy wabbit. When he shoots at Bugs or Daffy, they are all healed by the next frame. Not real consequences. It is just a type of humor. Then as the child grows, he is subjected to the movies that glorify violence and horror. The kid is desensitized further by warriors like Rambo who can kill with several types of weapons, and turns out to be the hero. Hollywood makes a lot of money with this theme. Only the actors change. The horror and violence escalate. The new electronic games are a masterpiece of violence and horror and the entertainment industry makes billions of dollars warping the brains and shaping the attitudes of our young people. It is no wonder that we are turning out sociopaths and psychotics who have no regard for human life. I see that in the comments that everyone on this site makes. Our enlightened legislators and judges have removed God from the schools and public buildings. Not that I believe in god but I've stated before, if we just lived by the ten commandments, which are just suggestions, we'd all live a better life. They have encouraged or at least turned a blind eye to immorality. It is no wonder that some young people have become killers. Our society gives them many opportunities to learn how to do it, the internet is a perfect example to learn how to do anything, and I mean anything. I am toolman961 and I approve this statement.

People who do shit like what happened in Connecticut deliberately pick places where the people are unarmed. If the gun grabbers have their way their way that description will fit evey man woman and child in the United states.

In countries that have strict gun control laws the criminals have no problems getting guns. Guns will be peddeled like drugs and law enforcement will have no more success stopping the influx of illegal firearms into our country than they do in stopping drugs.

Squidley read it fries. hahaha

i dont need to read it ... we dont have guns here so this sort of thing rarely happens here. and basically i dont give a shit

Well squidley is right about criminals getting gun's in strict gun control country's. I can assure you. Criminals over here are the only armed people around, criminals and some of our police forces. Not all, since we had a few police officers that committed suicide with their gun they are talking about taking it away from them.. I think I live in one of the most stupid countries of this planet and surroundings.

In Japan there is usually about 10 deaths a year due to guns, in the states there is usually more then 10 000 a year... So perhaps having so many guns is not really working for the states..

Sure gun's are an easy way to kill people, on purpose or by accident. It makes killing easy, but not having a gun doesn't prevent killing. I don't know. I'm pretty sure aggression and murder is more common here too. It's just there are way less gun's. and maybe due to that less deaths. It's still the people killing people thing. Gun's just make it really easy.

You're wrong, tool. Studies have shown that exposure to violent movies, video games, music, etc. does not make kids more violent. And exposure to religion doesn't make them less violent. In fact, the most religious states in the US also have the highest rates of violent crime (and are also the poorest and least educated, which makes you wonder, doesn't it?). I agree that just looking at gun laws is short-sighted (pun intended?), and that we ought to be looking at the bigger picture of how to reduce violence in general, but your claims of why people are "more violent" than they used to be (I don't think they are) are way off the mark.

I lived in Tennessee for 3 years and I know what you're talking about Gottlos, but also the society has changed where you're not even alloud to dicipline your child anymore without going to jail. My dad never beat my face off the wall or burned me with his cigarretes or even threw me down a flight of stairs, but he did whoop my ass for doing something wrong which made me realize that if I did that again, I was getting another ass beating. And yes, my ex wife got her ass beat for poking her little brother in the eyes just after watching the Three Stooges so don't tell me what you watch doesn't influence you as a child.

Exposure to violent video games does make you into a psycho killer, that is retarded. Violent video games will however make the act of shooting people a lot easier for the brain to process. In WWI Americans had a shooting rate of less than %20 because naturally people hesitate when shooting another person. For WWII the number had risen dramatically because they learned that by shooting dummies that looked like people it became much easier to actually shoot people, the fire rate increased dramatically.

That chipmunk was caged, not unarmed, get you facts straight dumbass. And Zappa was talking about braindead ignorant racists who would kill a "nigger" for sitting in a seat on the bus opposed to bombing an abortion clinic because a women didn't want the unborn child that was conceived by being raped by her brother. Does diarrehea alway spew from your mouth when you open it?
