Is it the best idea to be showing your face and your illegal whiskey stills on the internet?
Shhhhh...
LOL.... give most of it away
Post your pdf thing somewhere public and link it here. I need some instructions.
so intent to distribute too.....hmmm
don't get in near as much trouble unless you are selling it
5 years ago
You know a place I can do what you're talkin about Roland ??
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/49756226/Making%20Moonshine.doc

that should start a download
*should*
I know they exist but not which ones are reliable open and free.
Roland.... xzekiel posted the "cheat sheet" to making moonshine above. I sent him a copy of what you wanted last night
5 years ago
I'll check it out.
Not an expert dug, but I thought you needed a copper coil for the heated mash vapors to cool in, surely your loosing product with a straight pipe?
ignore me, I've just noticed the plastic pipes, and I'm guessing thats a bucket of water behind they're passing through.
yeah... mine are water cooled... copper is so damn expensive these days and the water cooled ones are just so much more durable
5 years ago
That's one thing I've always fancied attempting, I've done the home brew beer and wine thing just wish I had a garage or shed to attempt this in.
Same thing here.... one day just decided I was gonna do it and did. At first I did it in the house, but wife bitched about getting some sugar scattered around, so move to my garage.
took me 3 or 4 months to get it right.... wished I had someone to point me in the right direction when I started would have saved me alot of time
5 years ago
You ever tried it with barley or puting it into previously used spirit barrels? I like some of the cask conditioned flavours of whiskey there is out there. eg a port or sherry cask to absorb some of the flavours.
Pretty interested in the types of whisky you can make.
Wait, you think he AGES this stuff?
i would if i was making it, i'm not gonna drink it all in any rush and if I'm making any quantity of it.
Actually you can age quickly with charred oak sticks. Takes alot of the burn or bite out of it. Only takes about 1 week and it becomes amazingly smooth
5 years ago
Personally, I want to know if you can age it in a glass jar with oak chunks?
yes, this is what I do..... but oak must be charred ... you can do this by putting oak sticks in tin foil and throwing in a fire for 30 minutes or so.... do char too much or they fall apart
5 years ago
yes
In jail we would make a drink called baboche which was made from orange juice. I almost stopped drinking because of that shit
5 years ago
*almost
ya, almost
Post an instructable.
won't a lot of the alcohol evaporate from the open container that it's collecting in? Wouldn't an airtight container with a pressure release valve be much better?
It is re condensed to a liquid and does evaporate much at that point. No different then opening a bottle of rum and leaving the cap off.
@ Squat - i remember that stuff...aka "hooch"
i hope you go blind
Thanks, mighty nice of you to say Akai.... but I got this shit figured out and ain't gonna happen.... it would have already if it was gonna happen
5 years ago
pretty sure a hydrometer can tell you a rough alcohol content so you know your not drinking 100%alcohol.
yeah... got one of those... highest you can get with a pot still is 90 percent
5 years ago
Damn near impossible to get 100% via distillation.
too much fusel oil is what causes you to go blind or have other ill effects
5 years ago
yeah and arsenic which comes off at the very beginning of your run but this should be thrown out
5 years ago
never heard of arsenic being produced, but the fusel oils evaporate at a lower temp than ethanol, which is why they suggest you pour out the first few ounces or so
5 years ago
All I know is that I did a shot of ethanol anhydride when I was taking chemistry in college. Probably not the smartest thing ever.
sorry wrong chemical.... I meant acetone not arsenic... my bad
5 years ago
For some reason, i was thinking acetic acid, then acetate. Acetone sounds right, though
5 years ago
Up too damn late I think was my problem there..... anyhow nite guys... cya around
5 years ago
fuickin akai..you shat on my joke.Tits now!
* urkelbot sends link to FBI *
I'm sure they're watching
why would they care?
they don't unless you sell it. Just like making beer and wine, but what they get pissy about is if you sell it. All because they don't get their tax dollars
5 years ago
Make sure to use lead solder on your pipes.
Done..... I add Mercury at the end for a little extra kick
5 years ago
I like how all you faggots are telling Timothy Mcveigh how to make a still.
With all the other shit in your garage mixed with the paint can fuelled jar-shelf, I'm sure this will make Channel 3 news up here in no time at all...
The fire-ball will be glorious...
* JamesTKirk wrings hands like a crazed pyromanic... *
5 years ago
It'll be like the San Diego fireworks show
5 years ago
This might even be better. One can hope....
So youre the fuck making valspar lacquer...i knew that shit was homegrown.

Dik is just a regular internet tough guy. Acts like a hardass online but in real life he is a pathetic pussy.
yeah, no shit
Stop being butthurt, fags.
actually..this is diks nice side...he's oakland -tough in person
5 years ago
say what you want about dik - but noobs like dug and JB simply have no idea what they are up against
5 years ago
Only the fags use the stfu button.
but it's such a time saver
All that flammable liquid cooking near flammable trash, hope you don't have anything important in that garage.
i wanna try some after your done
*cum
thats whatyou want to try
Nuh uh you do
i got some of that distilling right here in my pants if thats what you like drinking
5 years ago
Not like I can mail the stuff to you, but if you're in Southern Ohio sometime let me know and I will hook you up.
So whats your yeild per batch?
Ok... for every 5 gallon of mash I make I get 1 gallon of first run moonshine. Then I distill it again and get about 2 quarts of my final product. But I have been making 28 gallon of mash at a time so I get about 3 gallons of 167 proof moonshine per run.
not bad, its going for about $400 a gal where I am, Ive gotta get off my dead ass and finish the one that I started.
Thanks ... but I live where there is alot of shine... 400 bucks no way in hell here
5 years ago
Yeah these idiots around here will pay just about anything for it because its illegal, I know a guy up in NH thats making a killing selling it down in RI to all the hipster doucebags
5 years ago
Note to self... Start making hooch.
Im making mine out of an old beerkeg and a turkey fryer
5 years ago
is it really still illegal to distill your own liquor? I'm pretty sure no one really cares
5 years ago
you can only make so much, and you can't sell it...that's the golden rule. I dunno what the limit is but iirc you are allowed to brew 200 gallons of BEER per year, per person...don't know about liquor
5 years ago
AK, what kind of yeast do you use? surely something that won't die due to high alcohol content??? for instance, can you use ale or lager yeast?
I've lived in wv since the early 90s...i've only seen shine once. I really wish i knew where i could get a quart
5 years ago
I think its time to do the diy method. Think of the joy it will bring to get shithoused from something you created yourself..
i've thought about it, i've been making beer for more than 10 years and surely have most of the equipment i'd need.
i forget - are you one of the noob stoners that i try to ignore, or are you one of the old stoners...that i try to ignore?
i dunno, it always seemed we were cool...to me anyway. But i'm one of the old ones
5 years ago
aw - shit - sorry tokes...
you are thinking the other people who talk about pot constantly :(
5 years ago
ya
i always go on the defensive when its a 'drug' related alias so i cant blame you.. i always assume that person is a fucking idiot.. sometimes its not true :P
5 years ago
strangely enough, coming from me - me too
5 years ago
Note to everyone:.. if your going to make moonshine... make it with weed in it..
Or not
better answer
wtf would weed do in moonshine... the alcohol would destroy anything
5 years ago
i'm 41 and a "professional"...i'm also very immature and have a thing for the ganja...but an idiot I am not...imo anyway
5 years ago
sorry tokes - we okay?
no qualms
I really dont know, It was just a stupid idea on my part, I dont personaly smoke the stuff anymore.. it just makes me sleepy..
no yak, thc is alcohol soluble (sp?) and cannabis is in the same family as hops, so you would get a bittering effect to counter act any residual sweetness
5 years ago
as far as i'm concerned we are possum
* possum subs a pic of a pot plant on a scale now *
5 years ago
So its actually viable.. interesting
are the first runs dangerous...ie: it could blind ya?
not the first run... some people only do one run I make two runs because I can only do 4 gallon at a time. but the stuff that blinds you that you are talking about is called forshot... it is the very first stuff that comes off when you apply the heat. So you should throw away the first 3/4 ouch for every gallon you distill. It has some bad stuff in it you should not drink
5 years ago
dont you just not drink it straight?
i mean....
you guys dont drink this shit straight do you?
west virginia.... I live right on the border... where abouts in wv... i do alot of traveling and I might be able to hook you up sirtoke
5 years ago
yeah you can drink it straight... but the shit is strong.... about 60 beers in a 32 ounce or quart mason jar
5 years ago
it cant taste good tho right? like ... well i guess i just imagine gasoline :(
or paint thinner.. but thats what i think of most straight alcohol... especially grain alcohol
5 years ago
actually it is alot smoother than most commercial alcohol like wild turkey and such. It kinda grows on you after you have had it a time or two.... but it still is some strong shit
5 years ago
i'm near morgantown
so you just like..... get like a mason jar and fill it up 1/4 of the way and are good to go for the night?
shit.... I am at the other end of the state.... near huntington
5 years ago
i appreciate the offer, thx anyway
How would you classify the taste as opposed to something like Everclear?
yeah yak.... rule of thumb is one beer is 1/2 ounce of alcohol... this shit is pretty much straight alcohol so 5 ounces of moonshine is about 10 beers...... 32 ounces in a quart so 1/4 is 8 ounces which is 16 beers
5 years ago
if only it tasted like beer ;/
the only time i had it it was outta a mason jar...and the old boy who had it was drinking it like water, giving me the mean eye as he downed it...then he handed it over to me like, "let's see if you can handle it pussy." I took a few baby sips and was like, "yeah...mmmmm"...but personally i thought i tasted like paint thinner myself
5 years ago
everclear burns instantly in your mouth... moonshine is more like lets say a top shelf whiskey like Crown Royal. It goes down smooth but still makes you warm all over..... at least if you make it right
5 years ago
i guess i dont understand the need to distill your own - i mean - it's not like you're a poor doctor in Korea or anything
5 years ago
I just enjoy it possum... kinda like fishing or playing golf for some I suppose
5 years ago
i would think it's more of a hobby/craft poss...as for me and brewing beer, i can certainly brew many more styles then would be available to me where i live.
oh i get it - it's like my beercan collection
5 years ago
i understand making your own stuff... its why i enjoy cooking and growing vegetables
i think even though it could be psychological you get more enjoyment out of things you make yourself
though in the case of vegetables and beer/alcohol there probably is a quality difference between what you make and what is mass produced... at least i would imagine
5 years ago
sir any recomendations on a starting kit or something to start brewing beer?
So uh, let's say I sent you a jelly jar in a self addressed postage paid box...
With a fiver inside.
'package contents: acid'
there is .... big difference. The stuff I make doesn't give you hangovers, I know that is hard to believe but it is true. Also most of what I make I mix. 1/5 moonshine and 4/5 juice. So each mason jar is about 12 beers but only 3 beer in volume. Plus it tastes awesome. Even the chicks love the shit.
^interposting noob
geez , roland - the Feds love that shit
Really sticking your dick out sending that in the mail... not a good idea. Flammable liquid in the mail is bad idea
5 years ago
so is blow

:(
lol
absolutely...it can be as easy or as complicated as you want to make it. Start with a starter kit and brew an ale, not a lager...lager yeast ferments as lower temps, ale yeast ferments at warmer temps. Brew a style you are familiar with and that you like. pick up a good book too: ie, the new complete joy of homebrewing by charlie papazian (all homebrewers have this book). I buy all my supplies from northernbrewerDOTcom. Keep in mind you can make alot of equipment you don't have. one important fact for a newb...cleanliness and sanitation is key. and btw, the homebrewers motto: relax, don't worry and have a homebrew
5 years ago
<always heed what authorities say
* possum picks mushrooms out of cowpats now *
5 years ago
technically you're not supposed to send booz through the mail...but i've never done that...i have, however, sent "yeast samples"
Gotta bail guys... got work tomorrow. Cya
5 years ago
god i hate those things

wait - "samples"?
Fuck you dug and dont come back
yeah, if you've ever had a "bottle conditioned" beer you will have likely noticed that thin layer of sediment on the bottom: that's yeast. The best example you may be familiar with is sierra nevada pale ale. I sent a few bottles to one of the gurus on a homebrew forum i frequent. i was advised to label it as "yeast samples"
im hungry
dammit TD
you saw what i did. i liked that i was hungry :)
On a related note. The RYO machines just got banned by congress under good king Barry. Good for Phillip Morris, eh? How's that supporting the lefty for the little man argument holding up???
wait - roll your own machines?
suddenly this gets a bit serious for me
i like how brewer places try to charge for the 'how to brew' book which has been available free online by the author for years :(
5 years ago
reason why i asked is because there is this:
http://www.groupon.com/deals/midwest-homebrewing-windsor-1?c=title&division=windsor&utm_medium=email&pt=&s=body&utm_campaign=midwest-homebrewing-windsor-1&sid=11209560&date=20120706&utm_content=all-deals_windsor&utm_source=newsletter&p=1&addxe=Y2xpbnRvbi5tY2xlYXlAZ21haWwuY29t&user=1031a955a5394236633d5be3d3089b9c5a100d1617fb727a05a8db370624ba62
but im not sure if its actually worth it or not
5 years ago
ive made my own smokes since the prison days...what's next, my underwear-washing?
ohsnap makes her own laundry detergent :(
5 years ago
* possum goes commando in protest *
We make our own detergent too
fucking hippies
Ryo's were like big machines where you poured your own tobaccy in the top and put in some quarters like a laundromat and got like five cartons for cheap, but an add on to some totally unrelated bill outlawed them in the last few days.

The little hand rollers are still legal.. for now anyway.
...I know how to make my own soap?
of course you do smerf, tis arequirement of living in the great PNW!
Yak, i'll take a look at that and tell you what i think...but it's a great price for sure...i'll be able to look more thoroughly tommorow

Yak, midwest supplies is a reputable supplier...iow they sell real stuff. the kit in question is here: http://www.midwestsupplies.com/brewing-basics-equipment-kit.html. sounds like a good deal to me, just make sure you have a big enough vessel in which to boil. i say go for it...and let me know if you get it and when you start
